What Are the Symptoms of Stress?

By Athena Hunter

Most sufferers of stress are ignorant of the problem until it's getting out of hand. With stress there is a great deal of diversity when it comes to symptoms and reactions; this is a huge part of the problem. Learning to recognize the symptoms sooner will lead to getting effective treatment even faster. Hopefully this article about the common symptoms of stress will help you identify them sooner.

Stress can cause us to feel the need to either eat too much resulting in weight gain or not eat enough resulting in unhealthy weight loss. You may find yourself skipping meals because you feel too stressed to eat, this is not a great way to lose weight because you are depriving your body of the necessary nutrition it needs to function. Stress can also cause the development of eating disorders which can cause weight loss in the wrong way. Eating the wrong types of foods can cause you to gain weight, just as easy as overeating. This is often referred to as emotional eating since you are ultimately using food to feel better emotionally. You may find that it is hard to cut back on your calories if you are consistently eating. By managing your stress you should be able to take steps to manage your eating habits. Stress can cause you not to be able to get along well with others as well as the opposite peril of withdrawing from social scenes to avoid conflict. This happens when you are so wrapped up with your own fears or problems that dealing with others just seems like too much. Isolation typically isn't a positive thing and often will cause even more stress since humans are typically social beings who feed off of each other's positive energy. If you're avoiding people who you usually like to spend time with, it's important to look at yourself and find out why. You might want to consider consulting your physician or perhaps a counselor for help with your symptoms of stress.

If stress is interfering with your sleep, this can also cause fatigue. This fatigue can become a real problem if you tend to experience a great deal of stress. If your energy is depleted, you should try to find out what is causing it.

Along with headaches, stress can also lead to dental problems because you tend to clench your jaw or grind your teeth. As you can see, these are just a few examples of symptoms that can get worse over time if you don't deal with your stress now. On the other hand, many people find that when they learn how to manage stress, many of their physical symptoms vanish.

although there are many symptoms of stress there are also quite a few ways of managing stress and treating it's symptoms before it's too late. It's better if you can find a way to reduce stress or change the circumstances that are causing it, rather than only treating the symptoms. For example, if stress is giving you a headache and you take aspirin, it may get rid of your headache, but the stress can then appear somewhere else. Find the cause, find the cure.
