Acne Scars And Personal Woes

By Mavic Gardner

Acne scars have a drastic effect on the mental and emotional states of health of a person. A majority of us, in our adolescence, may have fought with a severe case of acne; it is one of those calamitous and tough personal rites of passage most of us deal with while growing up. First, we had to deal with the crimson zits, and then, we had to face the scarring that is eventually left behind.

Dirt and oil can clog hair follicles, making a habitat hospitable to bacterial growth. The bacteria , in turn, cause skin breakouts (e.g., pimples).

Once we recover from the crimson pustules, we have to deal with the scars. Although there are acne scars that fade with time, some scars do not. Living with these scars on our own faces can be a very traumatic experience.

Acne scarrings have four basic types. Rolling scars are hollows with a wide, shallow depth. Ice pick scars resemble scores on the skin's surface. The raised-surface type could either be a keloidal or hypertrophic scar. Acne scars located on the temples or the cheeks are called boxcar scars, and they resemble scars from a case of chickenpox.

Clinical studies point out that facial scarring can have deep-seated psychological effects on a person, like low sense of self-worth, depression, and suicidal tendencies.

All The Same, it is not yet time to lose hope. Day after day, technological advancements in the treatment of acne scars are being developed and discovered. For example, there are laser treatments, creams, skin abrasion methods, and shots that are currently being developed to treat facial scars. Call your doctor and inquire about the most suitable procedure for you.
