All About Baby Blankets

By Marcus Santer

Baby blankets, for me at least, bring back such nostalgic memories of my nieces and nephews being born. I don't have any children yet myself, but I'm a sucker for babies. Every time I have a friend, family member, acquaintance, or even near stranger that is having a baby, I get excited about shopping for the baby shower. Shopping for baby gifts is an art form. And to me, the highest expression of that art form is in finding just the right personalized baby gifts. My absolute favorite items are baby blankets personalized.

With that introduction in mind, I want to introduce you to a few different options when it comes to personalized baby blankets. Now, you could always grab a baby blanket off the rack at Walmart or, if you're in the Great Lakes region, from Meijer stores, but those are so generic. If you get your favorite mom-to-be one of those, she'll end up realizing just how much thought you put into the gift when she goes to the park and realizes that 6 other moms have the exact same blanket for their babies. With personalized baby blankets, though, you can get the baby's initials put on it, first of all. Blankets with this style of personalization are known as monogrammed baby blankets. Your next option is a touch more expensive, but is even more special. This option is to get your baby blankets personalized with the baby's full name. You can step it up a notch even further and have the baby's birth date, birth stats (height and weight), astrological sign, or just about anything else that you can imagine embroidered onto it. If you want to go after the full monty, and outdo any other baby blankie out there, you could get the baby's picture put on the blanket!

Now, even though we've discussed the personalization options, you have a few more choices to make as you shop for a baby security blanket. You need to decide what material you want the blanket to made of for one. Try to stay away from wool, as it can be too hot and can be itchy and scratchy. And as we all know, when a baby is itchy or scratchy, he/she will let everyone within earshot know it! While you can go with cotton or a variety of other substances, you can really never go wrong with fleece baby blankets.

Finally, now that we've talked about personalization options and materials, we need to talk about shopping and finding the right price! I don't really recommend buying from stores such as Wal-Mart et. al. They offer products that are of inferior quality. The price might be right, but you'll regret it down the road, when the blanket quickly falls apart. A good choice is to shop at Amazon.Com. They have a wide variety of not just baby blankets personalized, but all kinds of personalized baby gifts. If you want to give your money to a smaller mom-and-pop shop, you can find a few sites where little old grannies will personalize your baby blanket for you, so that you'll have the perfect gift at your next baby shower!
