Improve Productivity How To Avoid Procrastination

By Wanda Albert

There are many things in life that will stop someone from working. Sometimes nothing can be done about them but there are times that you can prevent it from happening. Learning how to avoid procrastination as a writer can be difficult and it can take time but it is important that you learn how to do it. You may think that checking your Facebook will only take a few minutes but you could spend half an hour talking to friends that you did not mean to talk to.

Procrastination is when you put off the work that you need to do in favor of something else. Sometimes the other thing that you choose to do could help with earning money but most of the time it does not. Sometimes this can arise from writer's block, which you will need to find a way to get over before you can move on.

The problem with being a writer is that you will usually be working from home. This will mean that you have to be very disciplined so that you set your own working goals and plan your time well. There will be nobody around to tell you when you need to work and when you can take breaks. It is also important to take breaks regularly and take days off.

You will need to set a schedule that you can realistically stick to. Make a note of your working times and your days off. This will help you organize any work that needs to be done. Let your family know about your new schedule so they will know when you will be free or when they should let you work. Remember to put in some breaks and take time away from the computer.

While you may think that that deadline that is a month away is great, it can be easy to fall into the trap of putting off work. If you have 300 articles, you will not get them done in two days so you will need to set a plan on how long it will actually take you to do them.

You will also need to remember about any other work that you will get during that time frame. By all means, take some time away from the project but make sure you stay on top of it.

Part of the learning of how to avoid procrastination is learning how to deal with your home distractions. Video consoles and TVs can be the worst part of working from home. Also, working around your children when they have gotten home from school could make them think that you are free to play. You need to set up a room that is purely for you when you work. This will also help you with the organization of your work books.
